Most likely. Going to pick up my oldest kid from the in laws and find that the Murano is “downshifting” to 3000rpm on mild grades slowly losing speed. It’s like I have about 70hp/100ft lbs of torque.
Anyways not throttle just makes more noise then soon joined by valve train clatter. So I nurse it maintaining 40-45 mph by lightly accelerating on the downhills because I figure this isn’t going to start back up again. A narrow two lane isnt where I want to stop. This feeling is similar to when I blew up the beretta like 10 years ago.
I make it just into the gravel driveway where I drive into a concrete patch and instead of powering onto it, it just dies. Restart and it dies with a clatter.
Tow it up the rest of the hill and it’ll idle but just sounds awful. Having 201k it’s not going to be worth the price of a new engine (maybe in parts, but not in labor)
I’ll top off the CVT fluid (low) and seafoam it and miraculously eek it a few thousand more miles but I’m 99.9% sure it’s dunzo.
Free to a home that puts an Altima SE-R/6spd drivetrain in it.

What year? A coworker has a first gen one that was doing something similar, downshifting and feeling very down on power. Turned out to be a bad coil I think. Clattering isn’t promising though.....

2003. It’s been on borrowed time for a while honestly. So, I’m not frustrated, just something that is.

I think that’s what his is too. Fair enough, that’s how I feel about my Blazer.

Wait I know it is the same platform but is a 6-speed swap remotely plausible on these. I always loved the looks of the first gen Murano but hated the drivetrain.

I don’t think it’d be much different than any other auto to manual swap. Custom shift linkage, clutch cylinder mount, etc... You’d lose the AWD but that’s not much of a loss honestly. Packaging could prove troublesome, but couldn't say for sure.
It's hardly a popular customizing platform so I don't even know it's been tried, but crazier builds have happened.

My parents own a ‘03 with about 115k on it, it still pulls strong but there’s a faint knocking noise on start-up. We’re just gonna run the motherf***er into the ground or trade it in as a down payment on a hatchback for mom.

Yeah I’ve had valve tick on startup for a couple years now and made the choice to just run it until it goes. The effort+cost to nail down that one issue when there were other equal issues to attend to (CAS, valve seals etc...). Unfortunately, that price just never seemed worth paying. I could've spent 4 figures on the engine, but then you're still in a 200k, 13 year old vehicle with a time bomb for a transaxle.

Update: tossed in some seafoam and much smoother/quieter on idle but still a terminal sounding knock with any increase in rpms.
